The exceptional tourism potential of Romania has
two main components:
– the natural component, represented byspectacular landscapes, varied configuration of therelief, favourable climatic conditions and lots ofnatural therapeutic spas;- the historical component, represented by traces ofsucceeding civilisations that had lived on Romanianterritory since ancient times, monuments and lay orreligious art objects, museums and museumcollections, beautiful and original ethnographicaland folklore elements and actual prestigiousachievements.All the above mentioned constitute very attractiveelements of the Romanian tourism offer,presenting a wide variety of tourism types: stay(seaside, mountain, spa), hunting and sportfishing, cultural tourism at large, professionaltourism a.s.o.Due to its geographical position and to the threenatural elements defining its landscape structureand territory: the Carpathians, the Danube and theBlack Sea, Romania has the status of a Pontian-Danubian-Carpathian country.Each natural element, by its specific, has a certaincapacity of tourism potential, pursued on majorsteps of relief, increasing from the plain to the hillsand plateaus up to the mountains, with theexception of the Romanian seaside of the Black Seaand the Danube Delta which present physical andgeographical original aspects.Romania holds a huge treasury of archaeologicaltraces, historical, architecture and art monuments,as well as a valuable patrimony certifying thecontinuous labour and life evolution on theselands and the development of the Romanianculture and art.Potențialul turistic de excepție al României estemarcat prin douã componente esențiale:
– componenta naturalã, reprezentatã prin peisajespectaculoase, configurația variatã a reliefului,condițiile climatice favorabile, valoarea terapeuticãși abundența unor factori naturali de curã;
– componenta antropicã, reprezentatã prinvestigii ale civilizațiilor ce s-au succedat peteritoriul României din vremuri imemoriale,monumente și obiective de artã laicã saureligioase, muzee și colecții muzeale, elementede etnografie și folclor de mare frumusețe șioriginalitate, realizãri actuale de prestigiu.Acestea constituie elementele de mareatractivitate ale ofertei turistice românești,prezentând o paletã largã de forme de turism: desejur (de litoral, montan, balnear), vânãtoare șipescuit sportiv, turism itinerant cu valențeculturale, turism profesional etc.Poziția geograficã îi conferã României statutul dețarã carpato-danubiano-ponticã, datoritã celortrei elemente naturale definitorii în structurapeisagisticã și a teritoriului: Munții Carpați, fluviulDunãrea și Marea Neagrã.Fiecare formã a cadrului natural deține, dupãspecificul sãu, o anumitã capacitate de potențialturistic, urmãritã pe treptele majore de relief,crește de la câmpie, la dealuri și podișuri pânã launitãțile montane, excepție fãcând litoralulromânesc al Mãrii Negre și Delta Dunãrii, careprezintã aspecte fizico-geografice originale.România este deținãtoarea unui tezaur imens devestigii arheologice, monumente istorice, dearhitecturã sau de artã, ca și a unui inestimabilpatrimoniu care atestã evoluția și continuitateade muncã și de viațã pe aceste meleaguri,dezvoltarea culturii și artei poporului român.

8The main cultural and historical tourism resources
are the following:- archaeological artifacts;- historical, architecture and art monuments ofunique value;- museums and memorial houses;- folklore and traditions;- tourist villages.Here are some of the most representative tourismareas of Romania with their specialcharacteristics:- Bucharest – capital of Romania – the largest
political, industrial, administrative, cultural,scientific and tourism centre of the country; – The Carpathians – due to their width, easyaccess, original and beautiful mountainlandscapes, rich mineral waters and lots ofpossibilities for winter sports, represent thelargest and the most complex tourism area of thecountry. Here are located the internationalfamous mountain resorts Poiana Brașov, Sinaia,Predeal which, besides Borșa, Stâna de Vale,Pãltiniș, Durãu, Semenic, Muntele Mic, Bâlea,boast modern hotels and smart villas,restaurants, various entertainment facilities,tracks and installations for winter sports andcable transport. Spa tourism also boasts important treatment,accommodation and entertainment centres inbeautiful resorts of the Carpathian valleys andplateaus: Bãile Herculane, Bãile Felix, Cãlimãnești-Cãciulata, Slãnic-Moldova, Bãile Tușnad, Covasna,Vatra Dornei a.s.o.;- The Romanian seaside of the Black Sea – thisregion is a complex one which increases its tourismvalue. It lies on 245 km in length, with the DanubeDelta and the lagoon complex Razim-Sinoe to theNorth while to the South, on about 70 km, there liesthe seashore itself. The seaside resorts which arewell known at international level: Nãvodari,Mamaia, Eforie Nord, Eforie Sud, Techirghiol,Costinești, Olimp, Neptun, Jupiter, Aurora, Venus,Saturn and Mangalia, have all modernaccommodation, treatment centres and variousentertainment opportunities;Resursele turistice antropice sunt în principal,urmãtoarele:- vestigiile arheologice;- monumentele istorice, de arhitecturã și de artãcu o valoare de unicat;- muzeele și casele memoriale;- mãrturiile civilizației și culturii populare;- satele turistice.
Între cele mai reprezentative zone turistice aleRomâniei se disting câteva cu caracteristicideosebite:
– București – capitala României cel mai mare
centru politic, industrial, administrativ, cultural,științific și turistic al țãrii;- Munții Carpați – prin întindere, ușoarã
accesibilitate, originalitatea și frumusețeapeisajelor montane, bogãția de ape minerale șimultiple posibilitãți de practicare a sporturilor deiarnã, constituie cea mai mare și mai complexãzonã turisticã a țãrii. Aici se gãsesc renumitelestațiuni montane internaționale Poiana Brașov,Sinaia, Predeal, care, alãturi de Borșa, Stâna deVale, Pãltiniș, Durãu, Semenic, Muntele Mic, Bâlea,dispun de hoteluri moderne și vile cochete,restaurante, numeroase posibilitãți de agrement,pârtii și instalații pentru sporturile de iarnã șitransport pe cablu. Turismul balnear are, de asemenea, puternicebaze de tratament, cazare și agrement înfrumoasele stațiuni din depresiunile sau culoarelede vãi carpatine: Bãile Herculane, Bãile Felix,Cãlimãnești-Cãciulata, Slãnic-Moldova, BãileTușnad, Covasna, Vatra Dornei etc.;- Litoralul românesc al Mãrii Negre – zona
respectivã are o alcãtuire complexã care-imãrește valoarea turisticã. – The Danube Delta – is located in the North of
the Romanian seaside, 122 km from Constanța.
It is a very wide area of rush¸ water lilies,carnivorous and amphibious plants, poplarwoods and weeping willows. It is also therichest fauna park in Europe, with over 300 birdspecies and 60 fish species of great economicvalue;- North Moldavia, Bucovina or “Highlands ofMoldavia” – is famous at international level due to
its monasteries and churches Voroneț, Moldovița,Sucevița, Humor, Arbore, Dragomirna, Putnaa.s.o.;- Maramureș – Oaș – this area represents one of
the most original, historical and ethnographicalregions of the country. There are wooden churchesand massive gates that have original engravingsand various ornaments and Dacian pottery(Vama-Oaș);- Oltenia – is a very important tourism area situated
between the Southern Carpathians and the Danube;
– Transylvania – known as such since the
Roman conquest, it is a geographical regionof Romania situated inside the Carpathianarch;
– Central Moldavia – this is the Romanian historical
district situated at East of the Eastern Carpathians;- The Danube – since antiquity, it has been a
communication channel between Central Europeand the Balkan peninsula;- Banat – this ancient habitation area and
Romanian culture region, is situated in the South-Eastern part of Romania, between the Danube, theMureș river and the Southern Carpathians chain.- Delta Dunãrii , este situatã în partea de nord a
litoralului românesc, la 122 km de Constanța. Seprezintã ca o imensã suprafațã cu stuf, din care sedesprind plauri cu nuferi, plante amfibii șicarnivore, pãduri de plopi și sãlcii pletoase. DeltaDunãrii este totodatã și cel mai bogat parcfaunistic din Europa, cu peste 300 specii de pãsãri,60 specii de pești de mare valoare economicã;- Moldova de Nord, Bucovina sau “țara de Sus
a Moldovei” – este renumitã pe plan
internațional prin mãnãstirile și bisericile sale -Voroneț, Moldovița, Sucevița, Humor, Arbore,Dragomirna, Putna etc.;- Maramureș – Oaș – perimetrul respectiv
reprezintã una dintre cele mai originale zoneistorico-etnografice ale țãrii. Bisericile de lemn,porțile masive, au înscrustãri originale șiornamente variate, ceramicã cu motivedecorative dacice (Vama-Oaș);
– Zona Oltenia se constituie ca o zonã turisticã
importantã, situatã între Carpații Meridionali și Dunãre;
– Zona Transilvania – sub acest nume este
cunoscutã, încã din vremea cuceririi romane,regiunea geograficã din România cuprinsã îninteriorul arcului carpatic;- Moldova Centralã – este provincia istoricã
româneascã situatã la est de Carpații Orientali;- Dunãrea – a constituit încã din antichitate o
arterã de comunicație între Europa Centralã șiPeninsula Balcanicã;- Banatul – strãveche vatrã de locuire și de culturã
româneascã, este situat în sud-vestul României,între Dunãre, Mureș și lanțul CarpațilorMeridionali.

Prin structurã de primire turisticã cu funcțiuni
de cazare turisticã se înțelege orice construcție
sau amenajare, care furnizeazã în mod
permanent sau sezonier serviciul de cazare și alteservicii specifice pentru turiști.Nu se cuprind în structurile de primire turisticãcu funcțiuni de cazare turisticã : structurile de
primire folosite în exclusivitate de posesori sauchiriași, pe o duratã mai mare de un an, indiferentde clasificarea acestora; locuințele secundare alepopulației, utilizate în scopuri turistice în modexclusiv de posesorii acestora; cãminele,internatele școlare pe perioada anului școlar,unitãțile spitalicești (cu excepția sanatoriilor șialtor spații similare ce practicã în mod exclusivactivitãți turistice); vagoanele dormitor;adãposturile și refugiile montane și similare;barãcile și dormitoarele pentru muncitori,cãminele de bãtrâni și casele de copii.Establishment of tourists’ reception withfunctions of tourists’ accommodation means any

funcțiuni de cazare turisticã sunt cuprinse
structurile de primire turisticã existente la 31 iuliedin anul respectiv, fiind excluse cele a cãroractivitate a fost întreruptã pentru o perioadã maimare de timp, în vederea realizãrii unor reparațiicapitale sau pentru modificãri importante alecapacitãții de cazare sau/și a categoriei de încadrare.
Capacitatea de cazare turisticã existentã(instalatã) reprezintã numãrul de locuri de
cazare de folosințã turisticã înscrise în ultimul actde recepție, omologare sau clasificare al structuriide primire turisticã, exclusiv paturilesuplimentare care se pot instala în caz denecesitate. Numãrul de locuri a fost determinatpentru structurile existente la 31 iulie din anulrespectiv.The number of establishments of tourists’reception with functions of tourists’accommodation includes establishments of
tourists’ reception existing on July 31 of therespective year, excluding those whose activity wasinterrupted for a long period of time in order to carryout capital repairs or important changes of theiraccommodation capacity or/and category.Existing (provided) tourists’ accommodationcapacity represents the number of beds used for the
tourists’ accommodation and registered in the lastreception, homologation or classificationdocument of tourists’ accommodationestablishment, the extra-beds which can beprovided, if necessary, excluded. primire turisticã cu funcțiuni de cazare turisticã
cu o capacitate de cazare instalatã de cel puțin5 locuri-pat.
Capacitatea de cazare turisticã în funcțiune(exprimatã în locuri-zile) reprezintã numãrul de
locuri de cazare puse la dispoziția turiștilor de cãtrestructurile de primire turisticã, ținând cont denumãrul de zile cât acestea sunt deschise înperioada consideratã. Se exclud locurile dincamerele sau structurile închise temporar, din lipsãde turiști, pentru reparații capitale sau pentru altemotive.The statistical surveys comprise establishments of
tourists’ reception with functions of tourists’accommodation having at least 5 beds as capacity oftourist’s accommodation.
The tourists’ accommodation capacity in use(expressed in places-days) represents the number
of accommodation beds put at the disposal oftourists by the establishments of tourists’ reception,taking into account the number of days they areopened in the respective period. 32Numãrul turiștilor cazați în structurile de
primire turisticã cu funcțiuni de cazareturisticã cuprinde toate persoanele (români și
strãini) care cãlãtoresc în afara localitãților în careîși au domiciliul stabil, pentru o perioadã maimicã de 12 luni și stau cel puțin o noapte într-ostructurã de primire turisticã în zone vizitate dințarã; motivul principal al cãlãtoriei este altul decâtacela de a desfãșura o activitate remuneratã înlocurile vizitate.The number of tourists accommodated in theestablishments of tourists’ reception withfunction of tourists’ accommodation includes all
persons (Romanians and foreigners) who traveloutside the localities of residence, for less than 12months and who stay at least one night in anestablishment of tourists’ reception in the visitedareas of the respective country; the main reason ofthe trip is other than carrying out a paid activity inthe visited places.

Sfera de cuprindere a anchetei o constituie
persoanele rezidente în România, cu vârsta de cel
puțin 15 ani împliniți, din cadrul unui eșantionreprezentativ de gospodãrii.
Unitatea de observare este gospodãria, princare se înțelege un grup de douã sau mai multepersoane, care în mod obișnuit locuiescîmpreunã, au în general legãturi de rudenie, segospodãresc (fac menajul) în comun, uneorilucreazã împreunã în gospodãrie, consumã șivalorificã în comun produsele obținute, participãintegral sau parțial la formarea și utilizareabugetului de venituri și cheltuieli al gospodãriei.Înregistrarea datelor a fost fãcutã prin metoda
interviului fațã în fațã, rolul principal revenindanchetatorilor, care s-au deplasat la domiciliulgospodãriilor ce au fãcut obiectul anchetei.Perioada de referințã pentru înregistrareadatelor este trimestrul. Date din Breviar prezintã
cumulat datele rezultate din ancheteletrimestrelor I-IV 2016.The survey coverage comprises residents inRomania, aged 15 at least, from a representativehousehold sample.
The observation unit is the household,
consisting of a group of two or more persons, who
usually live together, are relatives, do thehousekeeping together, sometimes work togetherin the household, consume the obtained productsand take part totally or partially in creating andusing the income and expenditure budget of thehousehold.
The data registration has been done based on
face-to-face interviews, the main role being played
by the investigators who visit the householdssubject to the survey in question.The reference period for data registration is the
quarter. The data in “The Romanian TourismStatistical Abstract” are cumulated based on the2016 quarterly surveys.
