Siret River is one of the most important tributaries of the Danube Diver on the Romanian
territory. With a total length of 596 km on the Romanian territory, the confluence section of Siret
River with Danube River represents an area where over time major floods have occurred. In the
last 50 years, over 20 floods have occurred in the lower Siret River area, and the last important
flood that happened in 2010 had a negative impact on the population living in this area, on the
environment and on the economy. Although it is a buffer zone, where the Danube River has a big
impact on the discharge rate of the Siret River. Few studies have been done on the prediction of
flooding in the lower area of Siret River. The purpose of this study is to present the most im portant
steps for the realization of risk and hazard maps for floods that can be applied for rivers. For the
study area was choose the confluence of Siret River with the Danube River, upstream on a distance
of 35 km. In order to realize the risk and hazard maps for floods in this area, were used combined
techniques of topographic and bathymetric measurements by improving the digital terrain model
of minor riverbed for the studied river area. For this research, for developing the flood risk and
flood hazard maps, was used the 1D hydrodynamic model of the HEC -RAS software. The hazard
and risk maps were generated based on 10%, 5% and 1% flood scenarios, which are in accordance
with Flood Directive 2007/60/EC, except for the 0.1% scenarios for which there is no historical
data. Thus, in a flood scenario that can occur every 100 years, at a medium flood risk they are
vulnerable or may be affected about 9500 inhabitants, over 19.5 km of road infrastructure, about
16.5 km of railways, a number of 8 cultural heritage s and 3 environmental indicators.
