Corporate History – a Track Record of Excellence

1878 Walter Willson Cobbett founds a company (Ltd.) carrying his name in Dundee, Scotland. It is the
beginning of the future BBA Group Ltd., which will be home to the brands Mintex, Don and Textar.

1881 Foundation of The Frictionless Engine Packing Company in Manchester, UK. Before becoming part of
BBA Group Ltd. in 1983 the company conducts business as Small & Parkes with its brand Don.

1910 Herman Kirchbach starts the Kirchbach’schen Werke in Coswig , Saxony, the beginning of the later
Cosid brand .

1913 By now Walter Willson Cobbett Ltd. trades as Scandinavia Belting Ltd. setting up a distribution
company in Cologne, Germany. In 1934 production in Leverkusen starts as Textile Asbest – und
Riemengesellschaft mbH (Textar).

1925 Foundation of Presswerk AG in Essen, Germany, home to the Pagid brand .

1961 Foundation of the company and later brand Cobreq in Brazil .

1964 Small & Parkes enter into technical cooperation with the Japanese Nisshin Spinning Co. Ltd., part of
today’s Nisshinbo Holdings Inc .

1967 Scandinavia Belting Ltd. is reorganised into BBA Group Ltd.

1985 Textar, part of BBA Group, starts technical cooperation with Nisshinbo Industries Inc .

2000 BBA Group spins of f its automotive friction division with its brands Textar, Mintex and Don. TMD
Friction Group is born.

2001 TMD Friction acquires RÜTGERS Automotive with its brands Pagid, Cobreq and Cosid.

2010 TMD Friction acquires Eurofrictio n Ltd. in Scotland , and

bt Bremsen Technik GmbH based in Germany and the USA.

2011 Acquisition of South African sinter specialist Dynotherm (Pty) Ltd.

Combination of TMD Friction and Nisshinbo Brake under the ownership of Nisshinbo Holdings Inc.

2012 TMD Friction sets up four global strategic business units with a dedicated focus on Passenger Cars,
Commercial Vehic les, Independent Aftermarket, and Rail & Industry.

2016 TMD Friction sells its Rail business and strengthens the focus on its core business.
