Marlon Gerardo Dumas Menjivar is a Honduran e ducator, computer scientist and
researcher who has various contributions to domains like information systems engineering ,
Social Mining and Big Data Infrastructure , but he’s known mostly for his contributions in
business process management [1].
Marlon Dumas was born in 22 August 1975 in a small country located in Central
America named Honduras and graduated the Ecole normale s upérieure, Mathematics and
Computer Science section from Paris in 1995 . Then, in 2000 , he received his PhD in Computer
Science at the Joseph Fourier University (University of Grenobl e) from France [2]. After
graduating , he moved to Brisbane city from Austr alia where he became a professor at the
Queensland University of Technology in areas of programming, databases, information systems
analysis and design, and e nterprise software architecture and started to contribute and lead
various research projects in th e areas of software engineering and information systems
engineering [3].
After nine years in Australia, Dumas moved to Estonia to beco me p rofessor of Software
Engineering and lead researcher at Tartu University , but also Scientific Leader at Software
Tech nologies and Applications Competence Centre from Tartu.
Dumas is also a co -invento r of six granted patents . The most important ones are from
United States of America :
 Service Adaptation Machine , registered in 19 November 2009;
 Event -based coordination of process -orien ted composite applications, approved in
18 January 2011;

 Systems and methods for adapting service interface behaviors , approved in 28
July 2011;
As received awards, the most important ones are: “ Semantics and Analysis of DMN
Decision Tables ” best paper award at BPM2016 international conference [4], another three best
paper awards at international conferences (ETAPS’2006, BPM’2010, BPM’2013), three best
student: [anonimizat]’2005, CEC’2009, BPM’2014) and a ten -years
most influential paper award at the MODELS’2011 conference [5].
