High -contrast AlGaAs nonlinear photonics in
waveguides and microresonators
The first laser demonstration in1960 [1] propelled the beginning ofnonlinear optics with the first
demonstration ofSecond Harmonic Generation (SHG) in1961. Inwhat concerns tothelatest results insecond
order nonlinear optics, SHG integrated emitter inthenear infrared where demonstrated mostly onwaveguides
and photonic crystals and inWhispering Gallery Mode (WGM) hasbeen lately developed and improved [3,4].
FWM was already observed, among other platforms, inWGM microcavities such asmicrotoroids and
microrings .

shaped AlGaAs waveguides with aconversion efficiency of1.2%W-1and in
modal -phase matched straight waveguides .The quality (Q) factor AlGaAs
WGM microcavities demonstrated inour group [4] where improved,
reaching aloaded Qof3x104,leading toadecrease ofthe conversion
efficiency due toadecrease ofthe nonlinear mode overlap .We plan to
reduce this overlap ofthis cavities using the photo -chemical etching
demonstrated ontheteam [7]. Ialso design and fabricated 1×105 Qfactor
AlGaAs microring cavities forFWM .
