Figure no. 8– The using of Biodiesel (biofuel)
Biodiesel is an innovative way to protect the environment while driving. Relatively new as a product on the oil market all over the world, it is a little more expensive than the other fuels, but despite this aspect, it conquers with them. In Romania, in order to be bought, this product should be promoted more, as well as it should be a qualitative one with a proportional price. In this respect, in our country, consumer’s behavior should be educated in order to ensure a future protection to the environment. Applying this survey, most of the respondents had a negative opinion regarding their mainly usage of biodiesel.

Figure no. 29- Do you think we should become more sustainably self-sufficient in our country?
Most of the people think that we should become more sustainably self-sufficient in Romania. Sustainability is direct correlated with sustainable development of society and it is the way to solve the correct management’s problem of all the resources. In oil field, compatibility with the environment and technological sustainability are important factors.
Not understanding the difference between sustainability and energy efficiency is a barrier that prevents practitioners to achieve their aim of helping the environment. Sustainability movement showed companies how they can make savings. In this case, a delivery truck moving slowly saves enough fuel to compensate for what is lost in time. An ideal sustainable business, such as Rompetrol, creates results and resources that are interchangeable. A perfect sustainable business will have zero losses and will require a zero growth beyond a contribution. Simply, one may mention a regenerative project such as Rompetrol’s biofuel project. But not taking into consideration this additional measure will lead us from efficiency to sustainability, as practitioners of sustainability, and one fail in our approach to the planet. Besides, there is the risk of wasting precious time.

The direct involvement of Rompetrol in promoting the use of biodiesel reflect an attempt to reduce dependence on imported energy, taking into account that at present over 50% of the EU's energy is provided by countries outside the European area. The spectacular growth in recent years of the oil price and oil resources are limited for decades, are necessary to find a substitutable solution to this energy source.
The main advantage of using the bio-diesel on a large-scale is represented by a significant reduction in the emission of carbon dioxide, of about 60% compared to traditional diesel.
Biodiesel can be used for engines already on the market, and the substitution is made without incurring major additional costs. At the same time, the equipment performance is not affected by the use of biodiesel, and gives a similar yield to that obtained with diesel.
Biodiesel uses the same distribution network as traditional fuels, and does not involve additional costs from fuel distributors for adapting pumps. In this context, Rompetrol as an investor that develops biodiesel production starts with the existence of mature markets, as long as the market can offer to compete with fossil fuel prices.
Using biodiesel in significant quantities largely depends on its degree of adoption among car manufacturers. In this respect, companies like Volkswagen and BMW have already expressed intent to manufacture vehicles with engines specially designed for biodiesel. This policy expressed general interest in corporate environmental protection, and, on medium term, the number of companies that recognize the beneficial effect of biodiesel on the greenhouse effect will increase. At the same time invoking the need to find possible alternatives for replacing diesel is a result of limited global resources of existing fuels.
Romania can become a major player in the biofuels market, although production and volume reductions in recent years followed the introduction of a maximum nationally for this type of fuel, tax exemptions benefiting from duty. Success in Romania may be based in particular on the high efficiency of the agricultural sector and a strong lobby from it that may come as a result of the availability regarding substantial agricultural areas.
