B2. Significant and representative scientific achievements (maximum 2 pages)
The project is thought to start from two personal and original research directions [1] and [2].
The first ,[1] , I develop a software in an academic scope with a friendly -use interface which can easy
substitute the classical method calculation of lay -days, demmurage and despach for a ship which can
load or unload cargo, helpful for both teachers and students. The second one, [2], it is about a study
case using the Monte Carlo method in order to demonstrate the utility and the app lication of this method
in the fi eld of engineering, more precisely in the shipbuilding area. For both directions I used software
such as: Matlab, Primavera P6, Primavera Risk Analysis. [1] represent my graduate bachelor
engineering paper while the [2] it is part of my PhD thesys.

Starting of these 2 options I decide that my project should be entitled: Maritime engineering from
classical to digital.

From my perspective I consider that both [1] and [2] offer a big range of new research directions
also from the subject th ey treat but also due tot the tools that were used to obtain the results. Also I
consider that the both direction are topical, these should be seen from the existing research trends but
also from the f act that in industry these programs that I used are fou nd very often.

On the other hand my personal 5 years experience from the field of production inspire me a lot
to develop further something similar to the actual necessities of the business.

Regardless of the business sector large corporations use nowad ays software that integrates the entire
process, in order to optimize for example the technological flux and also to acquire a total control.

From my experience I can say that for a young engineer graduate contact with these tools can be at the
outset why not a bit frustrating regardless of his technical knowledge in the field acquired in college .

It takes time to accommodate, learn and familiarize the individual with the existing infrastructure. It is
only then that his technical knowledge can be applied and used. This can take a young man between 2 -4
months.
In consequence t he idea is to manage to get the main programs that are currently on the market and so
that I can simulate small workflows of course in the field of engineering sciences .

The i dea offers a wide range of choices, all with the ultimate goal of achieving a finished product .
In Figure 1 is a project idea of naval design, starting from the stage of concept to the part of detail.

No matter what type of pro ject we want to develop we must always keep in mind the motto: Planning –
Control -Execution -Completion .
This cannot be possible without an integrated system of ERP programs such as: Matlab, Primavera P6,
Primavera Risk Analysis, Aveva Marine, Navisworks, etc.

Note3:
To have the chance for funding recommendation, the project leader must demonstrate an
internationally visibility average or above average activity at p aragraphs 1 or 2, in Section B3.
Average or above average activity in the international community:
– For Sc ience and Social Sciences, the activity with an average or above average visibility is highly
defined by the existence of at least two publication as main author (document type: „article” or
„review”) published in journals situated in the "top 50% of all j ournals published in the
research field of the project proposal". The reference list with journals belonging to top 50%,
red and yellow areas, is achieved according to the scores of influence (AIS) calculated by
Thomson Reuters in Journal Citation Reports 2015 published by Thomson Reuters in June

3 Please, keep the note! It is not quantified by a number of pages and it is useful for evaluators.

The main authorship is expressed depending on the field, the project leader having the
responsi bility to present it correctly, in relation to the standards from the field, the authorship
following to be also analyzed by the panel and by the evaluators from the field; where the academic
norm is to list the authors alphabetically, there will be presen ted the publications as co -author
(with the argumentation of those academic practices).
The lack of average or above average activities to the paragraphs 1 or 2 reduces the chance for the
project proposal to be financed.

C. Research project description (maximum 10 pages and maximum 1 page bibliography )
In what respect my future project I would like to start from these two research directions [1] and [2]
that I mentioned before in section B2 as a start point cumulated also with my personal corporate
experience from the engineering field such as: maritime, oil and gas, civil engineering.

From my point of view even though both of them imply an engineeri ng issues my strategy is to imply
two yo ung resercher teams. In consequence it is likely to split it into two independent mini projects ,
part of the same project.
One team will be software orientated, in accordance with the [2] research directions, while the other
will be focused on the product ivity. The methodology and the main steps of the development of the
project as an entire will be described in the next sections.
C1. Issues
(1) the importance of the issue from scientific, technological, socio -economic or cultural point of view;

In what respect the issues of the project I would like to emphasize the most relevant of them in the context
of the state of the art in the engineering field such as: scientific, tehnological, socio -economic or cultural
point of view.

From the scientific perspective the two reserch direction wich I choose should be extended as much as
possible to obtain pertinent results in order to develop the available research and also to help to the
grow of the Interdisciplinary Research Center for Marine Engineerin g. This issue will be done if the
new result will be accepted and published in scientific research journals with a high impact factor.

The technological part il will be the core of the project, due to the fact that we deal with engineering
topics, and eng ineerng implies through definition technology. For this aspect the topics are quite
generous to allow me to use a wide variety of means of new existing technologies .

From a socio -economic perspective the impact should be that our results will help to optimize something
existent that should be considered to expensive : money or resource consumer.
(2) the elements of difficulty of the issue;

In what respect the element of difficulty of the issues this aspect can not be outlined from the begginig,
because it is possible to start with a summary list and menawhile the project is ongoing to minimize or
maximize the number of it. These aspect depend of how the results appear and how quickly are
implemented in the process.

(3) the limitations of c urrent approaches by analyzing the state of the art of the knowledge related to
the project topic.

. It is possible that meanwhile the project is ongoing to realize thet we are limitated by facts such as:
lack of resources, lack of ideas, delays of other aspects that may affect our projects, etc . Personally I
believe that the subject is enough generous in order not to have any impediments regardless of any
nature .

C2. Objectives

The main objectives of the project are the following:
• If we start from the [ 1] research directions the idea is to extend the existing GUI program with
other needs, or to create something similar in order to emphasize the utility of Matlab software
in the engineering field. Here I will also use my personal experience from the tw o sectors in
wich I worked: shipbuilding and oil and gas industry.
The strategy is to use as many as possible toolbox which Matlab have and demonstrate the utility of this
software in engineering. I that way we will
• The second research directions, [2], should help a lot the first, or function independent. For
example we can make our own planning of the projects involving both schedu le and cost, and

also make from time to time during the life of the project risk analyses in order to have a more
precisely overview of the job.
C3. Impact
If we talk about the aspects related to the potential impact of the project in the broader fra me of the
scientific field, we should emphasis the following aspects:
• the first directions, [1], should be extende d to naval design area aspects in Aveva Marine, with
finite element test using Matlab software and a good project controlling with Primavera P6
tool; the second directions [2]
• discussing the potential impact of the project in the scientific, social, economic or cultural
environment and/or the applicative directions to be explored within the project (where
applicable for the proposed research d irection) – naval engineering
C4. Methodology
Due to the fact that from the beggining we s tart with 2 research directions we will take this option into
account and start from the beggining with two research teams.
Fist team as mentioned before will start from the ideea [1], namely will use the Matlab softare in order
to develop other GUI as the one from the [1] and also to assure suport to the second team any structure
calculus.
The second team, in acordance with the directions develop in [2] will try to develop using Aveva Marine
software a naval design project. During and after the development they will use Navisworks software in
order to have an overview of the entire work.
For both research ideeas in order to control and monitoring the activities sof taware like : Primavera
P6, Primavera Risk Analisys, SAP MM & PM will be used.
The ideea is to simulate a real life project cycle in order to familiarize the students with what they will
encounter encounter in the production sectors.
Personally I aquire knowledge about all of this program software and their applicability in the field of
engineering .

C5. Ethical aspects (if appropriate)
The e thical aspects are very important when it comes to talk about researching. It is mandatory tha t in
order to have original results to work with original tools. For that reason It will be my duty to assure
that the Interdisciplinary Research Center for Marine Engineering has also licence for researching for
the programs that I will use, and if not, t o mention the aquisitions in the resource plan.
