Constraint Programming in music composition [628041]

Constraint Programming in music composition

Abstract

Constraint programming paradigm is suitable for the computational

modelling of musical theories and music composition: its declarative and

modular approach has similarities with the way music theory is expressed in a

traditional way, namely through a set of rules describing the desired result.

Various music theory disciplines have been modelled, including counterpoint,

harmony, rhythm, form and instrumentation. Because modeling musical theories

from zero is a complex task, generic music constraint programming systems

have been proposed that predefine the necessary building blocks for modeling a

range of music theories.
