Q2. Is the state being eclipsed by the forces of globalization and global governance [608353]
Part one
Q2. Is the state being eclipsed by the forces of globalization and global governance?
Globalization is a term that appeared in the late 1960' s and it has different understandings.
Some authors say that globalization implies a ho mogenization of cultural traits and on the
other hand implies a fragmentation in the national identities.
All the changes that were made in different fields such as the technological one, the cultural,
social, economic and political one are a result of gl obalization.1
The world in which we live is interconnected and therefore the decisions that are taken at a
supranational level, affects your country as well. We cannot talk anymore about a single state
as an entity, we can talk about a conglomeration of s tates which cooperate between
themselves where borders are not so important anymore, where the information arrives in a
few seconds from one corner to another corner of this world.
"However, globalization is very controversial. Its supporters argue that i t allows poor
countries and their citizens to develop economically and improve their living standards. For
their part, their opponents argue that the establishment of an unrestricted international free
market has benefited multinational corporations in the Western world, at the expense of local
businesses and cultures, and ordinary people. Therefore, resistance to globalization has come
to life both at the grassroots level and at the government level, as people and governments try
to control the movement of capital, labor, goods and ideas that constitute the current wave of
globalization."2
The current times are showing us a fluid world were we cannot define borders, in which we
are not talking about the same old enemies, but about new ones, the ones that ap pear from
nowhere and disappear in the shadows. Authors say that the enemy is between the walls of
the citadel. That's why we have to talk about global governance. Without the cooperation
between the states, without the protection that a transnational acto r can provide as a security
organization, a single state would perish or would be forced to adapt, because this is the
future, the future where a individual can say that the world is my home.

And yes, the state is eclipsed by the forces of globalization an d global governance because a
shared voice is stronger than a single voice, and the states understand that as single entities
they have to work together to push forward their own agendas.
The eclipse of a state starts from the moment where it is realizing that it cannot rise as a
power just with the resources that it's possessing. The power comes from the role that a state
plays in supranational institutions and how the state faces the obstacles that are in front. How
the state is understanding the global economy, climate change, nuclear proliferation and how
they manage to turn the decisions that are taken at a supranational level in its interest.3
Globalization has generated greater interdependence at the international level, which in turn
has created the need for global governance and that is how a state as a single entity is being
eclipsed.

light of the author’s argument as well as taking into consideration any other
